“A really productive day - I’ve explored my “why me” and made good progress on that, written a first draft of my blurb, written 500 words of my prologue and discovered a possible structure for my Book Proposal. A huge thank you Sophy. I only came across this a few days ago but it was perfect timing. Lovely to be in community with other writers. Thank you.” - Pip

“Thank you so much for this! I've gotten so much done, almost effortlessly.” - Magda
Even though you really want to write your book, actually finding the time to sit down and type can be surprisingly difficult. And it’s so easy to get distracted, start procrasti-cleaning, or abandon your writing session for something that feels more urgent or important.
This is where the protected time of signing up for the Writers’ Room co-working can be so helpful, giving you that tiny touch of structure and accountability that makes it so much easier to keep typing. We’ll do some quick goal-setting at the beginning of the day, and there’ll be regular check-ins, plus a brief end-of-day review.
And Q&A sessions with an experienced book coach and editor add another dimension to the day, helping you to get unstuck, and allowing you the chance to find out more about how the book industry works.
Your guide for the day
Hi, I’m Sophy
I’m a book coach and developmental editor with three decades of experience in the book publishing world. I’ve worked for publishers, literary festivals and book prizes. I’ve worked with hundreds of authors over the years, including Margaret Atwood, Ali Smith, Ian Rankin and Sophie Hannah.
I’ve been working as a book coach for well over a decade and I’m also cross-trained as a Relational Dynamics life coach, which helps me to support you if you’re experiencing imposter syndrome, writer’s block or issues around visibility etc.
Former clients have been published by Penguin Books, Sounds True, Canongate Books, Hodder & Stoughton, Saraband and Harvill Secker and have been shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
The format of the day:
The day will run from 10am until 6pm UK time with plenty of breaks to avoid Zoom fatigue.
There’ll be two short planning and goal-setting sessions (one at 10am and one after our break for lunch).
Writing sprints will be an hour long (with 5 mins at the beginning and end of the sprints to share what we’re planning to work on and then to come back and share our progress.
There’ll be two 30 min book coaching Q&A sessions, one in the morning, one in the afternoon.
You don’t have to come for the whole day, but most people get the most value by doing so - you can make serious writing progress in one dedicated day!
