Sophy Dale is a book coach, developmental editor, and writer , with over 25 years of experience in the publishing and book worlds.

In her previous roles, she worked with award-winning and best-selling writers ranging from Margaret Atwood to Ian Rankin, Irvine Welsh and Ali Smith.

She has worked with several publishing companies, was the founding Manager of the Edinburgh UNESCO World City of Literature Trust, ran the BBC National Short Story Award, set up her own small press (running it jointly with the novelist Alan Warner) and for over a decade she ran an online editing and writing mentoring company (working with writers including Booker Prize shortlisted Graeme Macrae Burnet).

She’s interviewed countless authors on stage at the world’s biggest book festival, in her capacity as director of a children’s book festival, and as a host for Gliterary lunches, including Fay Weldon, Tony Parsons, Lionel Shriver, Will Self, Val McDermid, Kate Adie, Jenny Eclair and  Maggie O’Farrell.

She’s also worked as a business coach and copywriter for online entrepreneurs, and qualified as a Relational Dynamics coach back in 2009. This background means she can help people navigate the mindset issues that come up when you take on writing a book.
